Hi, I'm Dr. I Jay Asher
Dr. I. Jay Asher is an award-winning author and playwright who worked as a couple’s counselor in Houston, TX and Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was the co-founder of the resurrected youth group: H.A.T.C.H. (Houston Area Teen Coalition of Homosexuals). HBO featured his work with youth in their 1992 documentary: Why Am I Gay? In Fort Lauderdale, he volunteered every other Saturday at the Pride Center working with gay and lesbian couples seeking resolution. He won the Pride Center Community Award for his work.For ten years, he taught Diversity in the Workplace and Group Counseling at Barry University in North Miami. In 2010, he wrote and published his memoir, Sunny Boy. He’s been writing novels, short stories, plays, and essays ever since. He’s added courses to help specific psychological challenges recently. His play, First Date, dealing with a transgender woman on her first date was performed in Fort Lauderdale and San Jose, California. It was recently published in the online magazine: Synkroniciti. In 2012, he won second prize with Art Affair for his short story, Jobs in Dubai. Jobs in Dubai is being considered for the 2023 Pushcart Publishing Award.Before going back to graduate school (The University of Houston) to earn a Master’s and Doctorate in Education/Counseling, Dr. Asher spent 25 years as a VP of Design in New York City’s fashion industry. He traveled the world.Dr. Asher’s intention is to share what he’s learned using language that is understandable. His intention is to provoke healthy thinking and a healthier response to the trials of life.
