about dr. asher
I was born a Listener. People who needed to talk have always found me. Although I took many roads, the path before me was always leading to the work as a psychotherapist.I intuitively had a fashion sense. My father was part of the New York City fashion industry. I learned about fashion seasons before I learned my ABCs. When I graduated New York University’s School of Business, I followed in his footsteps. I specialized in men’s sportswear. I worked with Oleg Cassini and Peter Max. Even as a fashionista, I was the go-to guy for men, women and companies who were looking for work or designers. My designs appeared on the cover of every menswear magazine. Playboy did a multi-page spread of my holiday designs. Galey & Lord did a fashion show featuring my designs using their stripes and plaids.Somehow, I got to Houston, Texas. Finally, the door opened. Because of my work with youth, I was accepted into the University of Houston School of Education majoring in family counseling. My Doctoral dissertation dealt with Gay and Lesbian Adolescent Suicide. After graduation, I moved to Fort Lauderdale and opened my own office. My clients made me aware I had insight when it came to couples’ counseling. That became my specialty. Twenty-six years later I took up writing. That is now my passion.
